In order to get to it you need to do the quest “Between a rock…” in the Keldagrim underground complex. Part of the quest involves being shot from a dwarf cannon into a rock whilst wearing a solid gold helmet.
Once you have completed the quest, you can ask the dwarf to fire you into the rock again. Once you’re in there you will find unbelieveable amounts of gold ore. The best place to mine is north east section of the mine. To exit the mine, leave one space in your inventory spare and remove your helmet.

This mine has a special way of banking the gold. Once you exit the gold mine (rock) walk back to the river. You will find a Dwarven Boatman. He will bank your gold for you. He likes to charge a price (6 ore for a full inventory), however there is a way to halve this. Get yourself a Ring of Karos(a) and you can charm him into only charging 3 ore.
